The Motions

We all go through moments of darkness and self-doubt. It’s just a part of life. Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is the only thing you don’t want to: keep going, even mindlessly.

When you look over your life and you feel like you’ve hit a wall,

When you have so many dreams you feel you’ll never be able to pursue,

When it feels like life couldn’t get any worse.

Trust your gut.

It’s cliche. You hate me for telling you that, I feel the same.

Maybe it’s finances, maybe it’s relationships, maybe it’s you.

Nothing’s for certain.

Except one thing, mostly. Tomorrow.

Tomorrow will come.

“You did it again,” you say. Another cliche. I know.

But it’s true.

See, you know, deep down inside, that you’ll get past those dark feelings.

You know.

And, if you think far enough, you know that the best thing you can do is just keep going.

“Keep going, how?” you ask. I’m not sure.

You’re at your wits end. No amount of coffee can fix this.

But somewhere inside of you there are a few drops left.

Not coffee. No, it’s stronger than that.

You’re stronger.

Squeeze those last drops. Use them to get through the rest of today, no matter how painful.

Because, if you don’t, you’ll regret it. It’s happened before.

You know.

If you screw up today, if you don’t go through those dreaded motions, chances are tomorrow will be even worse.

Your sleep schedule will be wonked. You’ll wake up, eyes red.

Trust your gut. Not the temporary gut. No, the deep-down-true-to-yourself-god-damn-I-hate-that gut.

No one wants to go through life blindly.

But sometimes,

Sometimes.

When it’s all you have, hang on to that.

Go through the motions. Because?

Because tomorrow will come.

And that dream you thought you’d never reach?

You just might.
